Nereida and her family now have safe drinking water

Nereida and her children
Dear Neil,

Nereida lives in the San Pedro neighborhood of Bluefields, Nicaragua with her husband Jorge and four children. Nereida is a school teacher and Jorge is a carpenter in one of the city’s workshops.

Although they have a well in the backyard, the water is contaminated with human organic and inorganic waste. To find safe drinking water, the family must either purchase bottled water or walk to the communal well.

Thanks to the new filter provided by Neil, Nereida and her family can now safely drink the water from their own well, decreasing the time and money spent finding alternative sources. According to Nereida: “The filter is good. Every day we filter water. The water from our well is dirty, but when it gets out of the filter it is crystalline [crystal clear].”

Agripina no longer has to walk miles for clean water!

Agripina and youngest son
Dear Lesley,

Agripina lives in Bluefields, Nicaragua with her two sons, aged 11 and 16. Her neighborhood faces serious water issues and Agripina spends a large percentage of her time and monthly income finding safe, reliable water sources for her family.

Agripina does have a well in her backyard but this water is contaminated by human organic and inorganic waste. She must either walk over three miles to the community well or purchase bottled water; although this option is more convenient it is extremely expensive.

The new filter you donated has provided the family with a source of clean drinking water. For the first time, Agripina can pull water directly up from her well, filter it, and either drink it immediately or store it for later use. Thanks to this solution, she no longer needs to buy bottled water and has more money to spend on food, books, and supplies for her sons.
